We use genetics, multi-omics, and machine learning approaches to study senescence and decay in model and horticultural plants . We particularly focus on the research of vegetables and fruit for the improvement of postharvest shelf-life and food quality.

Education
Fighting Food Waste and Loss is a new course to identify the current issues in food waste and loss, evaluate the economic problems of food waste, and identify strategies for reducing food waste and loss. This course includes the following innovative features: A wide range of topics, including postharvest waste and loss; empowering stakeholders; food safety; and communication technology for reducing food waste and loss.

ABOUT US
HOS2333, Fighting Food Waste and Loss, is an interdisciplinary Quest 2 General Education course in Biological Science for undergraduate students, serving our department and the rest of the university. The course was developed and taught in the spring of 2020, and it has been approved to become a permanent course to be taught every fall.
This course includes the following innovative features:
A wide range of topics, including postharvest waste and loss; empowering stakeholders; food safety; and communication technology for reducing food waste and loss.
o The course includes multiple avenues of communication, including lectures, guest lectures, TED talks, group discussions, and field trips.
o Assignments encourage participation and develop communications skills: group discussions, report writings on selected topics, video recording, and oral presentations.
